I went for a lovely bike ride today and on my way I was reminded to go slow. Who reminded me? A blue heron, gingerly taking its time as it strode along the creek bank. I paused along a wooden bridge to watch it walk ever so slowly. Now, I know, that this bird was probably scanning the creek to see what it might find; but I appreciated the pace of its stride, walking and then pausing... walking then pausing. Looking around at its surroundings; pausing to see what there was in the grass and in the creek. And, then a thought came into my mind. How often during your day does your pace find itself moving so fast that you often wonder what you just missed? How often do you take it slow; walking then pausing?
As I biked beyond the heron, pondering my thought, I paused and saw this most beautiful sight. I could have just booked on by, maybe taking a brief glance, thinking how nice it looked and continued my pace. But, I didn't. I stopped... paused... and appreciated the scene. The puffiness of the clouds, the color of the sky, the green of the algae, the reflection of the tree in the pond. So much to see; so much that I could have missed if I just passed on by. So, take the time during your day to take it slow and pause.
